Parent Helping
We think parent helping is the most rewarding and fun aspect of Youngset Preschool.   It is an excellent time to participate in your child's growth and development as they make their first friendships and get ready for a larger world outside of the home.  There are two parent helpers each day that typically participate in the following:

Time commitment
Requirements depend on the number of days per week your child attends school.  A 3 day per week attendance typically requires parent helping once every 3 weeks.

Testimonials from parents and students
The following are letters from parents and students about their experience as parent helpers at Youngset.

"Parental involvement takes Youngset from an already nurturing
environment to a real community of teachers, parents and children.
I've seen my daughter grow from a shy and reserved child her first
year to a much more confident, outgoing little person who's ready
for kindergarten. I attribute so much of this growth to the fact that
she feels safe in her Youngset community."

"My daughter loves it when I'm scheduled to Parent Help. Not only does
she get to share her routine of games and crafts and play, but I get to
know her friends and some other moms, too. My son isn't old enough yet
to go to Youngset, but he is already chomping at the bit for when it's
his turn."

        - Sydney, Parent, class of 08

"As a parent who works inside and outside the home, I knew it would
be a bit of a juggling act to parent help in Brooke's classroom. Now
my son will be entering Youngset in the fall and I can't wait to see how
he interacts with his teachers and peers. It's such a great way to see
firsthand how your children get along, for better or worse, in their world."

Why do you like your mama coming to school and being a parent-helper?
"I like her playing with me.  It makes me happy. She bring good snacks."

       - Jack, Student, class of 07

"Being a parent-helper has been great because I can see how Jack interacts
with the other kids, where his interests lie and what things he needs to work on.
I've enjoyed getting to know his friends and teachers.  I've gained a great
appreciation for his teachers who do this work
every day. "

                - Colleen (Jack's mom)

"Youngset has been transformative for our daughter.  Since September, she
changed from a shy, reserved child who spoke to very few people to a more
self confident, well spoken girl who is able to communicate well with teachers,
parent-helpers, and her peers.  The change is dramatic and our entire family
has noticed it.  We credit three things for her change:  the play-based curriculum,
the fabulous teachers, and the supportive community.  Through play, she has
learned how to be herself with other people, and has been allowed to interact
with other children at her own pace and on her own terms.  The teachers take
every child as they are and work with their strengths.  They accepted her, and
helped her flourish not by coddling her, but by nurturing and empowering her.
Finally, all the parents take a sincere interest in the development of each child,
not just their own.  I have been profoundly touched by the care and concern that
has been shown to our daughter this year.  We feel so blessed to be a part of
this community and grateful for what it has done for our daughter."

        - Melissa, Parent class of 07

"I loved parent helping because it was such a good way to see how my kids
interacted with other children and comforting to see what other three and
four year olds were like!  Getting to see how the teachers spoke to the children
and handled various situations was educational for me.  Lastly, parent
helping allowed me to get to know the other parents better.  Youngset is such
a great introduction to the formal education that awaits our children in
elementary school.  Parent-helping assists in making this transition!"

                - Ann,  Parent class of 03, 05

"During Megan's tenure at Youngset I made a decision to go back to work.
I was juggling parent helping along with the demands of an almost full time job
and a husband who travels constantly.  This made the week challenging at times
but having a once in a lifetime opportunity to be in the classroom with my daughter
and get a 'sneak peak' into her world made it totally worth while.  We feel very
lucky that she has been able to get such a great start to her school career.
We would do it all over in a heartbeat!
"
